Breaking Barriers 2024

Experience confidence, friendship and learn some self-defence with HeartSpark and Theresa Stanley, black-belt executive director of Phoenix Taekwon-do Club and creator of Girls on Fire Confidence Workshops.

Breaking Barriers will introduce participants to useful self-defense techniques, get creative about confidence and see themselves physically break through the obstacles holding them back.

Theresa Stanley, has been teaching martial arts for almost 20 years and is the executive director of Phoenix Taekwon-do Club in Morinville, AB. Having been a teen with low self esteem and massive body image issues, martial arts was a source of strength for her. Becoming an instructor came with the responsibility of mentoring and building confidence in her students. HeartSpark offers free mental health and friendship programming for female youth in Fort McMurray and was founded by Holly Hashimi. Holly is a volunteer with a number of local mental health-based agencies and started HeartSpark in the hopes it can offer our future leaders a chance to learn, grow and create friendships in a safe environment.

NOTE: Participants have the option of registering and receiving one of our Comfy Sweaters with a special badge for this event.
